Dickson's Appointments

Robert Haynes' Journey to Massage Therapist

Robert Haynes Sweet Escape MassageI attended James Dickson’s first couples workshop at the end of April 2009, Partner Massage 101 For Couples. I have been to two of James’ workshops previously (Massage for Men 101 and Massage 102 for Men.)

With the skills and guidance that I got from those two classes I have been working as a part time masseur now for about a year, which has really changed my life, allowing me to finally do something that I am truly passionate about.

My primary reason for attending the couple’s workshop was to give my partner some insight into the beauty of the work that I do in massage, and also, selfishly, so that he could learn to give me a proper massage.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect out of the class. The previous classes were all men and I understood that Partner's Massage 101 would be a mixed class consisting of men and women. While I consider myself very open minded I wasn’t sure how comfortable I would be in such an intimate setting with people of differing lifestyles. It ended up being one of the most inspiring and life-changing weekends I have ever had.

Within minutes of entering the workspace, I could sense that there was a great amount of love, compassion and understanding and suddenly all of my insecurities vanished. It ended up being one of the most inspiring and life-changing weekends I have ever had.

While the class certainly fulfilled it’s promise of offering the skills needed to give and receive a good massage, I think we all found that massage became a vehicle by which we were able to communicate and understand our partners better. James helped us to explore our relationships and identify the partner that is typically in control and then showed us how we can all release control and by doing that, be able to find true bliss and trust in our partner. We all found that massage became a vehicle by which we were able to communicate and understand our partners better.

One of the biggest lessons that I took away from the class also was that unless you tell your partner what it is you want, you can’t be upset when you don’t receive it.

I hope that James will be offering this class regularly and I would recommend this to all couples, whether interested in massage or not, because ultimately you will take away so many tools and lessons that will better your relationship, and because I believe that good energy attracts good energy, you will be surrounded by wonderful people who will support you in that journey.

James is one of the most amazing human beings that I have ever met, so full of love and compassion, it is a blessing to know him and if you have the opportunity to experience his teaching and energy, don’t pass it up.
